Working Principle of Softener
The softening process utilizes ion exchange, where an ion exchange resin replaces calcium and magnesium ions with an equivalent number of sodium ions. Inside water softeners, resin-filled cylinders facilitate this process. As the hard water passes through the resin beads, calcium and magnesium ions bind with the resin, effectively softening the water.
Water softening also involves a combined clarification and softening process within a compact treatment unit to reduce alkalinity and hardness. This process can also remove other impurities like silica, heavy metals, fluorides, phosphates, TSS (total suspended solids), and organic matter to a certain extent.
